For more than 10 years we have designed and made magnetic knife holders and knife blocks for customers all over the world.

Through thousands of magnetic knife holders and knife blocks delivered to customers in Denmark, Europe, the USA and Australia, we have built a deep understanding of function, materials and individual needs.

Every product is made individually to order in our workshop in the far north of Denmark, where we – Kari and Torben – personally handle the design and the entire making process.

The finish comes from a long series of manual processes that bring out the natural character of the wood and leave a silk-smooth, hard-wearing surface.

Fully magnetic design – free placement and a secure hold

Our magnetic knife holders and knife blocks differ markedly from conventional solutions: they are fully magnetic.

They are built with continuous rows of strong neodymium magnets along the full length of the magnetic knife holder and across the width of the knife block. That means you can use every centimetre – a 40 cm magnetic knife holder typically takes 6–8 kitchen knives.

The magnets are embedded invisibly in the wood and distributed across several layers, so each blade makes contact with more than one magnet at a time. The result is a stable, secure hold where the knives do not slide, twist or pull towards each other.

Gentle storage for your knives

A good magnetic knife holder is not only about storage – it also protects your knives.

When knives hang freely on a magnetic knife holder, you avoid the blade-to-blade contact that so often happens in drawers or in closed knife blocks. That reduces the risk of small chips along the edge and helps the knives stay sharp for longer.

At the same time the knives are always visible and within reach, which makes work in the kitchen both faster and clearer.

More hygienic than closed knife blocks

Closed knife blocks can be difficult to clean, and moisture or food residue can build up in the slots over time.

On a magnetic knife holder the knives hang freely and ventilated, which makes cleaning simple and makes it easier to keep both knives and wood dry and clean.

Strong magnets developed for the purpose

We use only strong neodymium magnets, made to our specification and imported directly from the manufacturer.

Will they hold heavy knives?

All our magnetic knife holders are built to hold the vast majority of kitchen knives securely.

In the few cases where a knife is unusually heavy or has a low magnetic content, we offer our X-tra Strong series, with roughly double the magnetic pull of the standard models.

Natural materials and a considered finish

We think of our magnetic knife holders and knife blocks as functional furniture – and that shapes the whole process.

Each model is made from carefully selected FSC-certified oak or walnut. The wood is worked, sanded and finished with great precision, so the surface feels harmonious, is pleasant to the touch and stands up to daily use.

Finally we apply an environmentally friendly furniture oil that protects the wood and brings out its natural structure. Every product is discreetly stamped with our signature – Rune-Jakobsen – as a record of origin and responsible production.

What length should I choose?

The length decides how many knives your magnetic knife holder can take. The simplest method is to lay your knives out with the spacing you want, then measure the total width – that gives you the minimum length your new magnetic knife holder needs.

Which magnetic knife holders are the strongest?

We design ours so that a standard model 4.5 cm wide has more than enough power for the vast majority of kitchen knives. Width is therefore mainly a question of design, since magnet strength is the same across all widths within the same series.

• Models 4.5–8.5 cm wide have the same magnetic force.
• Models 10–28 cm wide have roughly 50% stronger magnetic force.
• All X-tra Strong designs have 100% stronger magnetic force than the standard models.

If you have very large or heavy knives, we recommend a wide model or X-tra Strong. That gives a larger magnetic contact surface and keeps the knives especially stable.

All magnetic knife holders come with two hidden keyhole fittings on the back. We use different types of fittings depending on the design, but the principle is the same.

Two screws go into the wall, and the magnetic knife holder hangs on them. Screws and wall plugs are included with your order.

If you would rather mount it without screws, you can use construction adhesive or strong double-sided tape. We usually recommend No More Nails from Pattex, but any construction adhesive will work as long as your knives are not too heavy and the wall is perfectly flat. When ordering, please leave a note in the cart so we can leave the back completely smooth and unoiled – your adhesive or tape will grip far better.

Alternatively, we can position the fittings to match two grout lines in a tiled wall. All we need is the exact distance between the two joints when you order.

Magnetic mounting

If you prefer a solution with no screws and no adhesive at all, we offer Knifeboard Magnetic — a magnetic knife holder with a magnetic back, designed to mount straight onto a fridge, extractor hood or any other magnetic surface. It goes up and comes down without tools and without leaving a mark.

To keep both your knives and your magnetic knife holder or knife block in the best condition, always put the knives back only when they are completely clean and completely dry. Damp knives can damage the surface over time and leave marks.

Wipe your magnetic knife holder or knife block regularly with a slightly damp cloth, and avoid detergents and harsh chemicals. If needed, the surface can be refreshed with a little natural wood oil on a soft cloth.

Avoid placing the product close to strong heat sources or in direct sunlight, as this can dry out the wood and change its colour over time.

With proper care, your magnetic knife holder or knife block will keep its looks and its function for many years.

We only use carefully selected FSC certified furniture wood. The primary wood types are oak and walnut.

We finish all products with a food-approved oil.

With us, craftsmanship, materials and aesthetics are at the heart of everything we do. Our product images are designed to give you an honest and inspiring impression of what you're getting – without unnecessary staging.

The vast majority of product photos in our webshop are therefore taken by us – whether it's a grinder, a magnetic knife holder, a serving board or one of our textiles. ⛓️‍💥 Complaints

According to the Danish Sales Act, Rune-Jakobsen Design grants a 2-year warranty from the invoice date for manufacturing and material defects (defects).

Complaints about defects or damage to delivered products must be made to Rune-Jakobsen Design within 14 days of receipt of the item(s).

The right of complaint does not cover errors, damage or wear and tear, directly or indirectly resulting from incorrect operation, incorrect maintenance, violence or unauthorized interventions.

If you cancel your purchase, you can use a shipping company of your choice and bear the costs associated with the return.

When returning due to a complaint, Rune-Jakobsen Design will cover the return costs.

🛃 Customs, VAT and taxes

We ship all items from our workshop and warehouse in Denmark. Below you can see what this means for you — find your country and read exactly what applies.

🇪🇺 Customers from EU countries

For orders from an EU country, VAT is automatically adjusted to your local rate, and there are of course no customs or import fees within the EU. The price you see at checkout is the final price.

🇳🇴 Customers from Norway

We are VAT registered in Norway (VOEC 3053342) and collect Norwegian VAT and any customs duties directly in the webshop.

• Products with a value of less than 3,000 NOK are not subject to customs duties.
• Products with a value of over 3,000 NOK may be subject to customs duties, depending on the product type. If this applies to your order, the customs duties will be calculated at checkout — you will not pay anything extra upon delivery.

We ship all orders Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). This means that VAT and any import duties have been paid in advance in the webshop. The price you see at checkout is the final price — no unexpected fees, no customs delays, just hassle-free delivery straight to your door.

🇦🇺 Customers from Australia

We ship DAP (Delivered At Place) to Australia and GST is not charged at checkout. Whether your order will be subject to tax upon arrival depends on one simple threshold:

Orders under AUD 1,000: No duty, no GST, no fees. Your order is delivered directly to your door at no additional cost — the price at checkout plus shipping is all that matters.

Orders over AUD 1,000: Australian authorities charge import duties and GST, which the carrier will settle with you before delivery. Here's how it's calculated:

1. Customs duty: approximately 5% of the price of the goods (the rate depends on the type of goods).
2. GST: 10% of goods + freight + customs duty.
3. Processing fee: a fixed fee for customs clearance from authorities and the shipping company, typically AUD 100–200 total.

Calculation example: You order goods for AUD 1,600 with AUD 150 in shipping.

• Duty: 5% of 1,600 = AUD 80
• GST: 10% of (1,600 + 150 + 80) = AUD 183
• Processing fee: approx. AUD 100–200
• Total import costs: approximately AUD 360–460 — on top of what you paid at checkout.

Good to know: The limit applies per shipment. So if your order is just over AUD 1,000, it may be best to either keep the order below the limit or add a little more to your cart so that the import costs are spread over a larger purchase — the processing fee is the same whether the order is AUD 1,100 or AUD 3,000.

🇨🇦 Customers from Canada

We ship DAP (Delivered At Place) to Canada. Canadian sales tax (GST/HST) and any handling fee will be charged. by the shipping company upon import.

All of our products — with the exception of the Japan collection — are of EU origin and can therefore be imported duty-free under the EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement (CETA). Products from our Japan collection may be subject to customs duties at the regular Canadian rates.

🌍 Customers from other countries

For other countries outside the EU, orders are shipped DAP (Delivered At Place). This means that any import duties, local VAT and handling fees are collected by the shipping company when the goods arrive in your country.

These fees are set by your local authorities and are beyond our control. Many countries have a threshold below which orders are exempt - if in doubt, please check with your local customs authorities or write to us before ordering.
