They look identical from the outside, but each has its own mechanism inside. The pepper mill is made for peppercorns and dried spices such as coriander, cumin, fennel and cardamom; the salt mill has a separate mechanism made for sea salt and rock salt only.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUse each for its own purpose and both will last for decades.
