Crafts with origins

Handicraft with origins — what Rune-Jakobsen Design really is.

Rune-Jakobsen Design is not an ordinary webshop. Nor is it a brand in the traditional sense. It is closer to a point of view: A belief that the things we surround ourselves with in the kitchen and home should be chosen with care — and have a story worth knowing.

The beginning

The company was founded in 2016 by Kari and Torben Rune-Jakobsen in the northernmost part of Denmark. It started with knife holders — handmade, magnetic, made to order in solid oak and walnut in our own carpentry workshop. A response to a market dominated by standard products without soul and without origin.

The artisanal starting point has remained the same since then. We manufacture our own knife holders and cutting boards under the name Rune-Jakobsen Woodworks — each piece produced individually, from material selection to final grinding by hand. No warehouse. No middlemen. Full responsibility for results and quality.

A curated assortment with local roots

In parallel with our own carpentry, we have built a range of products that share the same philosophy — objects with identifiable origins, made by people with professional pride and local tradition.

It means cookware from Pentole Agnelli in Bergamo, founded in 1907 and now used in restaurant kitchens around the world. It means spice mills from Alexander Handcrafted Mills in Thessaloniki — handmade in solid brass and copper since 1977, in the birthplace of Alexander the Great. It means ceramics from Les Céramiques de Lussan in the south of France, where Heidi Caillard founded her workshop in 1968 and where her iconic guinea fowl is still produced by hand. It means crystal glasses from Kagami Crystal in Tokyo — Japan’s first crystal manufacturer, founded in 1934, supplier to the imperial family.

Common to all of them: a clear origin, identifiable craftsmen and a creation process that is not optimized for the lowest price, but for the highest result.

What we don't sell

We don't sell products because they are popular. We don't sell anything we wouldn't want in our own home. We don't compromise on material quality to meet a price point. And we don't offer products we don't believe in.

It limits the range. That's the point.

Personal service — not customer service

Behind the rune-jakobsen.com there is no call center. There is Kari and Torben. When you write to us, you will get a response from us — with knowledge of the products we sell, and a real interest in you making the right choice. We are happy to advise, without obligation, on everything from choosing a knife holder to cooking utensils.

We offer a full return policy on all products — even custom-made ones. It's our way of ensuring peace of mind in a purchase you can't physically see.

Crafted, not produced

It's not a slogan. It's a description of what we're trying to do — and what the manufacturers we partner with are doing. In an era where almost everything can be made cheaper and faster, it's a conscious choice to go the other way.
