Gyuto / Chef's knife

The chef's knife, also known as the G yuto in its Japanese form, is the cornerstone of any knife collection.

It is the most versatile knife in the kitchen and is used for the vast majority of cutting tasks in everyday cooking – from chopping vegetables to slicing and cutting meat.

There are generally two types of chef's knives:
The classic French or Western chef's knife , available from brands such as Sabatier and Wüsthof , and the Japanese gyuto , which is similar to the Western model but often has a slightly straighter back profile.

Functionally, the two types are used in the same way, and the choice depends mostly on personal preference and feel in the hand.

Whether you prefer a Western chef's knife or a Japanese gyuto,
