A Bank Tray is a flat-bottomed metal tray traditionally used for handling cash in banks.

Our 'Bank Tray' is handmade by Japanese Sakami Kogei, who create the tray using a traditional Japanese craftsmanship called 'Hera Shibori'. This is a method where a metal plate is secured in a mould and rotated, while the plate is pressed against the mould with a rod called a spatula.

It requires great craftsmanship and experience to know exactly how the spatula should be angled and how much force to apply. Finally, the tray is given a brushed finish using a traditional matting process called 'Metsuke'.

The 'Bank Tray' is made to be used, and its brushed surface only gets more beautiful with daily use.

'Bank Tray' has a fascinatingly simple and functional beauty and is perfect for storing and organizing your small items at home. This could be keys in the hallway, salt and pepper on the dining table, candles and flowers in the living room - and much more...

The tray measures 18.5 cm in diameter and is 2.6 cm high.

Maintenance:

  • Wipe with a dry soft cloth after use and store in a dry place.
  • When the tray is used, the metal will become more matte over time due to oxidation. Especially in areas frequently touched by hands or utensils.
  • In Japan, this natural patina and unique texture is appreciated and called 'Atari'.
  • A Japanese person would never polish their metal items, so you shouldn't either!
