Katana – knife stand without magnets, inspired by classic Japanese sword stands

Katana is inspired by the classic Japanese stands for storing knives and samurai swords – and was developed precisely for the knives a magnetic knife holder isn't the right solution for. A knife stand in solid wood, handmade in Denmark. The knife stand comes without knives.

Features:

For precious and delicate knives: Hand-forged Japanese knives, thin Damascus blades, knives with brittle hardening or a delicate finish – here a magnetic mount can be too hard on the edge. On Katana the knives rest loosely on the brass supports: no pull, no click against the steel and no risk of cutting into the edge when the knife is put back.

22 degrees is the whole secret: Katana leans back 22 degrees. That means gravity alone holds the knives securely against the back of the stand – no magnets, no clips, no slots that collect moisture and food residue. The knives rest as they should and lift off just as easily.

Good to know: Katana is recommended for knives with blades between 10 and 30 cm and comes as standard for right-handed knives.

Sizes:
Katana comes as standard for 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 knives, with 8 cm between each brass support (Standard) or 6 cm (Compact). The height depends on the number and spacing:

Compact is ideal if worktop space is limited and you don't want it dominated by a tall stand. Available in solid oak, smoked oak or walnut.

Quality:
All Katana stands are made by hand in our own workshop in Denmark. The wood goes through a long series of manual processes and is finally oiled with a furniture oil that brings out the natural character of the wood and gives a silky-smooth, long-lasting finish.

How to Choose the Right Knife Block

Which width should I choose?

The width determines how many knives your knife block can hold. All our knife blocks are magnetic on both sides, and the magnets sit in several rows, so the blade makes contact in several places and holds extra securely.

Lay your knives in a row with the spacing you want, measure the total width and divide by 2. That is the minimum width your new knife block should have.

Which knife blocks are the strongest?

All our knife blocks are made with powerful magnets that hold every kitchen knife on the market. There is no difference in magnetic strength between the designs.

Height and space required

All knife blocks are approx. 30 cm high and suit blades up to 30 cm – including long knives such as a sujihiki. The footprint on the counter is the width of the block × 14 cm.

If you have knives with blades longer than 30 cm, we will make a custom solution. Small deviations from the standard sizes are made at no extra charge.

All sizes in the shop are given in centimetres. cm → inches: multiply by 0.39 · inches → cm: multiply by 2.54.

About Our Wood Species

We only use carefully selected FSC certified furniture wood. The primary wood types are oak and walnut.

We finish all products with a food-approved oil.

PLEASE NOTE that we always try to create unique and well-crafted products with an exciting visual expression and play of colors. You should therefore take our photos as a guide and not as a guarantee of how the finished product will appear.

Remember that wood is a living material. No two pieces of wood are the same, so all product photos are indicative.

Oak

- is a classic and well-known type of wood. The color of the inner part of the trunk (heartwood) ranges from reddish to gray-brown depending on the type of oak, and it darkens with age and exposure to light. The outer part of the trunk (sapwood) is lighter and without as much color pigment.

Smoked oak

- is oak that undergoes a steam treatment, which results in the coloring of the tannic acid in the oak. We only use "real" smoked oak from a reputable supplier - i.e. we do not take shortcuts by using a dark stain or dark-colored oil. Therefore, our smoked oak can also vary in color expression from product to product.

Depending on the wood's own acid content, the color after treatment can vary from light honey brown to deep black. The smoked wood contains no harmful substances after treatment.

PLEASE NOTE that the color and color play as well as the color depth of the finished smoked oak may vary. Therefore, 100% uniformity cannot be expected throughout the product. If you don't care about the finished result, we will of course exchange it with a smile😊

Please contact us before ordering if you have any special requests for the smoked oak. We can tint it from very light to very dark depending on your wishes.

American walnut

- is a very beautiful wood with vibrant grain patterns that vary from light to dark brown with a, at times, dark purple tinge. The grain patterns, colors and structure of walnut wood vary greatly - but it is always beautiful..

Use and Care of Magnetic Knife Holders and Knife Blocks

To keep both your knives and your magnetic knife holder or knife block in the best condition, always put the knives back only when they are completely clean and completely dry. Damp knives can damage the surface over time and leave marks.

Wipe your magnetic knife holder or knife block regularly with a slightly damp cloth, and avoid detergents and harsh chemicals. If needed, the surface can be refreshed with a little natural wood oil on a soft cloth.

Avoid placing the product close to strong heat sources or in direct sunlight, as this can dry out the wood and change its colour over time.

With proper care, your magnetic knife holder or knife block will keep its looks and its function for many years.

30-Day Right of Withdrawal

You have a 30-day right of withdrawal on all products — including made-to-order Woodworks products. Notify us at info@rune-jakobsen.dk within 30 days of receipt; you then have 14 days to return the item unused and undamaged.

You pay the cost of the return shipment yourself, unless it is a complaint. Danish customers can order a return label via Shipmondo. Once we have received the item, we refund the full purchase price.

Complaints: Under the Sale of Goods Act you have a 2-year right of complaint for manufacturing and material defects. For a justified complaint we cover the cost of the return shipment.

Customs, VAT and Duties

All orders are shipped from our workshop and warehouse in Denmark. For customers in the EU, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, VAT is included in the price at checkout.

EU: Local VAT is included — no customs duties, no fees.
Norway: Norwegian VAT is paid in the webshop (VOEC 3053342). Below 3,000 NOK: no customs duty, the order is shipped DAP. Above 3,000 NOK: any customs duty is calculated and paid in the webshop, the order is shipped DDP. No extra charges on delivery.
United Kingdom, Switzerland/Liechtenstein and USA: All orders are shipped DDP — VAT and any customs duties are paid at checkout. The price you see is the final price.
Australia: Shipped DAP. Under 1,000 AUD: no duties or GST. Over 1,000 AUD: duties and GST are collected by the carrier before delivery.
Canada: Shipped DAP. GST/HST and any handling fee are collected on import; goods of EU origin are duty-free under CETA.
Other countries: Shipped DAP — local duties and fees are collected by the carrier on arrival.

About Our Product Photography

Real products, honest pictures

With us, craftsmanship, materials and aesthetics are at the heart of everything we do. Our product images are designed to give you an honest and inspiring impression of what you're getting – without unnecessary staging.

The vast majority of product photos in our webshop are therefore taken by us – whether it's a grinder, a magnetic knife holder, a serving board or one of our textiles. The images of our wooden products always show genuine, handmade products that we photograph before they are packed and sent to their new owners.

To give you a better idea of how the products will look in different homes and kitchens, we sometimes insert these original photos into AI-generated rooms or backgrounds. Only the background is artificial – the product itself is never altered or AI-generated. Every grain, edge, color, and detail you see belongs to the physical product we created.

We also occasionally receive photos from satisfied customers who give us permission to use them in the webshop. These photos provide an honest and inspiring insight into how our products look in real homes and environments.

No artificial product renderings. No misleading visual enhancements. Just real craftsmanship, photographed honestly.
