A Japanese soy sauce dispenser in black clay that pours cleanly and without drips – designed by Osamu Saruyama and thrown in Tokoname, Japan’s old pottery town.

The soy pot (shōyu-sashi) is a fixture of the Japanese table: a small dispenser for soy sauce that stays out and is used every day. With 84 ml it also stretches to guests and larger gatherings without taking up room on the table.

The form is simple and considered: a low, stable body, a loose lid and a short spout shaped to cut the stream off, so the last drop does not run down the pot. The dark clay gives it a calm, matte expression that suits sushi and dumplings as well as the everyday breakfast table.

The dispenser is just as suited to vinegar, ponzu and other thin sauces and dressings as to soy.

Made by Takasuke Pottery in Tokoname (Aichi Prefecture), one of Japan’s six historic pottery centres, after an original design by Tetsuro Kaneko from the porcelain town of Arita, reworked by Osamu Saruyama (GUILLEMETS + SARUYAMA).

Kogei products are made in very limited quantities by small workshops in Japan and may therefore be sold out from time to time. Contact us at info@rune-jakobsen.dk if you would like to know the delivery status of a sold-out product.
