How to Choose the Size and Height of a Pepper Mill

A tall mill for cooking and serving

Grip, crank and proportion
Picture the complete movement: one hand holds the body while the other turns the top or crank. A diameter you can hold securely matters more than maximum height. On a small table, 13–17 cm often feels restrained, while 20–25 cm creates a bolder vertical accent. Treat these ranges as visual guides, not rules.
Choose capacity without overfilling
A large reservoir is useful for heavy use, but pepper should not sit for years in a warm, bright place. Match capacity to consumption and fill moderately. This keeps pepper fresher and makes changing varieties easier.
