Caisses japonaises en bois avec couvercles coulissants
Our wooden boxes in Japanese paulownia wood are the ideal plastic-free storage for your rice, bread or other food.
The box is handmade by Japanese 'Matsuda Kiribako Co. ' without the use of nails or metal fittings. A fine craftsmanship characteristic of the Kasukabe City area of Saitama, which is known for its paulownia products.
Boxes made of Paulownia wood are a traditional Japanese container for storing rice and other foods, clothes, etc
Paulownia is rich in insect repellants such as tannin, paulownin and sesamin, and due to its porous structure, paulownia has a high ability to regulate moisture.
The wooden boxes are therefore used in Japanese kitchens to store and protect food. The boxes are also used elsewhere in Japanese homes for storing and organizing clothes and other everyday items.
The boxes are made with a beautiful and practical sliding door opening, which makes it easy to take things out of the box with your hands or with the help of the accompanying ladle, which holds 2 dl. It is also possible to remove the entire top lid, which makes it easy to fill and clean the box.
Our Paulownia boxes are available in two sizes, both of which come with matching Paulownia scoops:
- 30 x 24 x 18 cm (holds 5 kg)
- 30 x 24 x 27 cm (holds 10 kg)
Designed and handmade in Japan 🇯🇵
Masuda Kiribako Co. was established in 1929 as a manufacturer of traditional handmade kiribako boxes made from paulownia wood (called 'Kiri' in Japanese).
Initially, the production consisted of boxes for traditional Japanese objects such as Hakata dolls and Shamisen instruments.
Later, Masuda Kiribako developed a wide range of wooden boxes for tea ceremony instruments, foodstuffs and other small household items.
Masuda Kiribako is run today by Hirofumi Fujii, who is the third generation. Born in 1987, Hirofumi is a young leader who has carried on the craft of his grandfather, the second generation leader of Masuda Kiribako. With Hirofumi, Masuda Kiribako continuously develops unique craft methods to create beautiful and charming wooden boxes
