Yamawaki Hamono is from Sakai, a city known for its long tradition of knife forging. They make knives in a variety of steels, from different craftsmen in Sakai. There is no doubt that Yamawaki's knives are an excellent tool for any kitchen.

These knives are made with ZA-18 in the core, and are covered with an insanely beautiful Damascus cladding. ZA-18 is a type of stainless steel that is a bit like VG-10 but has a higher carbon content, and is also hardened harder than VG-10.

The utility/petty is the other cornerstone, which, along with the chef's knife, makes up the two most versatile knives in any kitchen. Its narrow and incredibly thin profile is made for precision tasks, such as peeling an orange or trimming meat to remove tendons. That's not to say that it can't slice vegetables, which it also does with amazing ease.

The handles are made of burnt oak, which is dyed blue at the top.
