Klässbols is a Swedish family business that goes back to the end of the 19th century.

The textiles represent the best in the art of weaving and premium quality.

Since the 1970s Klässbols Linneväveri has had the honour of supplying the Swedish royal house with exclusive tablecloths in the form of hand-woven tablecloths and napkins, furniture, embroidery and curtains.

In addition, Klässbols Linneväveri has for 30 years delivered specially designed tablecloths and napkins for the annual Nobel Prize ceremony.

The family collaborates with nationally and internationally renowned designers and has received several design awards.

Many manufacturers choose to weave their textiles in very broad and long lanes, which are subsequently cut and folded, after which the edges are sewn with an ordinary stitch.

Klässbols weave their products to the edge, i.e. That all products are individually woven and therefore have a very beautiful and complete look.

The history of flax

As early as the Stone Age, flax could be processed in Europe, though it was mostly used for things like ropes, fishing nets and the like.

Clothes were not so developed at the time. Hardly anyone thought about the tablecloth, not to mention the napkin. In ancient Egypt, people began to dress in beautiful, cool linen. Flax was the only material allowed in priestly clothing, and the mummies were wrapped in fine linen, many of which are still preserved today.

From Egypt, knowledge spread over Babylon, which in ancient times was the centre of the "flax industry", through Greece to the Roman Empire and further up into Europe. In the Roman Empire, in ancient times, there were large flax workshops in Ravenna and Vienne, which were under strict control of the 'procuratores linificiorum', which says something about the meaning attributed to the material. In the Nordic countries, we have been able to process flax since at least the Bronze Age.

Around the year 1530, the spinning wheel was invented, further accelerating the production of flax. Flaxworking was a craft for a long time. When the machines arrived in the late 1700s, the biggest competitor to flax arrived with them – cotton. Better machines came, which were also suitable for the flax industry. In 1805 Joseph Marie Jacquard constructed his epoch making machine for pattern weaving, which among other things opened new opportunities for Damascus weaving.

The flax has had fierce competition from simpler and cheaper materials, and more than once it has been thought that it would disappear completely. The quality and aesthetic value of the flax have proven to survive all "newcomer materials", including the synthetic fibers of recent years.

Fortunately, it now seems that flax is entering a new age of glory - in a world on the way back to sustainability and quality consciousness.

About flax
The long fiber of flax is suitable for weaving, and its use can be traced back nine thousand years. In the 18th century there were several famous Nordic Damascus gardens and the blue-flowered flax fields were breathtakingly beautiful. Eventually, cotton took over as the most common textile fiber, and the difficult-to-process linen ended up in the shade. Today, flax is only in the Nordic countries to a limited extent. But flax has had a renaissance. The awareness of nature has gained a strong foothold, and more and more people appreciate the tradition and the uniqueness of the characteristics of flax.

The flax fiber has extreme strength and suction. The substance is fast drying and smudge repellent. If you spill liquid on the substance, it is absorbed immediately. Linen wipes are excellent in the kitchen to dry glass and to give silver and crystal a beautiful shine. Flax also feels cool to the skin.

Washing and care

Flax textiles should be washed at 60°C, but difficult spots may require a higher temperature, however not higher than 80°C. Flax is a durable material, and best of all, a good choice for the environment. Always expect shrinkage of about 5-7% when you wash the linen fabric for the first time.

A fine linen fabric that has been properly treated has a beautiful shine and a cool and smooth surface.

1. Softening
Place the new linen in lukewarm water for at least 20-30 minutes before washing to avoid folds, but also to contribute to more water in the washing machine.

2. Detergent
We recommend detergents for coloured washing for all our textiles, or detergents without bleach.

3. Water-rich programme
All new flax material releases excess fiber at the beginning, which must be flushed out in the wash. Set the washing machine to the program with the most generous amount of water. Do not wash with the eco program, as it uses little water.

Wash at 60°C and wash flax separately and not with other materials, as excess flax fibers can get stuck on the clothing.

If you have a difficult stain that requires a higher temperature, you can increase the temperature, but never above 80°C, as the linen can then fall in elasticity, shine and strength.

4. Drying - centrifugation and drying
For centrifuging, only low speed (400-800) should be used. Remove the centrifugation completely if possible. At high speeds, fibres can be broken, resulting in deterioration of quality and more excess fibres. When the sink is finished, clean the door on the washing machine for lint.

Hang to dry after washing. Natural and coloured linen should not be dried in bright sunlight.

We advise against using a dryer. However, the 'BADA' towels can withstand drying at low temperature if desired.

5. Irrigation
Stretch the damp linen after washing and hang to dry. If you want to iron your fabric, do so while the fabric is moist and with a warm iron (three dots).

Care instructions – Linen

Flax is one of the world's oldest textiles and has been used for thousands of years. It is a 100% natural fiber, made from the flax plant, which is grown with low resource consumption and processed into one of the most durable textiles available.

Linen fibers are naturally stronger and sturdier than cotton, making the fabric exceptionally durable. At the same time, linen only gets more beautiful with time – the more it is used and washed, the softer and more comfortable it becomes.

To maintain the quality and enjoy your linen products for many years, we recommend the following:

Before first wash

• Soak the product in lukewarm water before the first wash – preferably overnight. Tightly woven products can be soaked for up to 24 hours. This helps the fibers retain their natural strength.

Wash

• Wash at max. 40°C on a gentle or coloured programme. Kitchen textiles such as tea towels can be washed at 60°C if necessary.

• Use a gentle detergent without bleach or optical brighteners.

• Spin for as short a time as possible – linen dries quickly on its own.

Drying

• Gently smooth and stretch the fabric while it is still damp.

• Air dry outdoors in a light breeze, but avoid direct sunlight.

• Avoid tumble drying.

Ironing

• Linen can be ironed or rolled while it is still slightly damp.

• If you want the characteristic, relaxed look, ironing is not necessary – the natural folds are part of the charm of linen.

Shrink

• Expect a natural shrinkage of approx. 5–7%.

Good advice

Tablecloths and runners
Roll the slightly damp cloth or rag tightly around a smooth plastic tube and let it dry completely. This will give a nice, smooth result.

Tea towels
Soak tea towels in cold water for about 24 hours before washing for the first time. This improves their natural absorbency.

Stains

• Dried red wine stains: Dab a little glycerin on the stain, place the product in a plastic bag overnight, then wash.

• Other stains: Treat with a mild, colourless dishwashing detergent, leave overnight in a plastic bag, then wash as normal.

A material that lasts for many years

Linen does not need to be washed as often as many other textiles. Often, it is enough to hang the product to air between uses. With the right care, your linen products will develop a beautiful patina, become softer over time and maintain their quality for many years.

The vast majority of product photos in our webshop are therefore taken by us – whether it's a mill, a knife holder, a serving board or one of our textiles. The images of our wooden products always show real, handcrafted pieces, photographed before they are packed and shipped to their new owners.

To help you imagine how the products look in different homes and kitchens, we sometimes place these original photographs into AI-generated interiors or backgrounds. Only the background is artificial – the product itself is never altered or AI-generated. Every grain, edge, colour and detail you see belongs to the physical piece we made.

From time to time, we also receive photos from happy customers who kindly allow us to use them in the webshop. These images offer an honest and inspiring glimpse of how our products look in real homes and surroundings.

We are constantly expanding our product gallery. As many of our products come in a wide range of sizes and variants, we don't yet have photos of them all. The image shown for your selection therefore primarily illustrates the chosen wood type – not necessarily the specific size or design variation.

Prices and payment

Prices are shown in the currency and tax setup applicable to your market. We use fixed, fair prices and do not run seasonal sales or Black Friday campaigns. Standing quantity benefits are applied automatically where stated on the website.

Orders and handmade products

An order is confirmed when you receive our order confirmation. Many Rune-Jakobsen Woodworks products are handmade to order. Current production and delivery times are shown on the product page. Natural variations in colour, grain and structure are part of solid wood and handmade materials.

Delivery, VAT and duties

We ship worldwide from Denmark. Shipping options and prices are calculated at checkout. Orders to the USA are shipped DDP, with duties and tariffs charged at checkout. For UK orders, UK VAT is added at checkout. Other international orders may be subject to local taxes or import charges unless checkout states that delivery is DDP.

30-day right of withdrawal

You may withdraw from your purchase within 30 days of receiving it. This applies to standard and custom-made products. Returned items must be unused, undamaged and securely packed. We refund the full purchase price after receiving and checking the return. Return shipping is paid by the customer unless the return concerns an accepted defect or incorrect delivery.

Please contact us promptly if an item is damaged, defective or incorrect. Include your order number and photographs where relevant, so we can resolve the matter as efficiently as possible.

Delivery and Shipping

Worldwide shipping

We ship from Denmark to customers worldwide. Available carriers, delivery methods and the final shipping price are shown at checkout and depend on destination, parcel size and weight.

Dispatch and production times

In-stock products are normally dispatched within 1–2 business days. Many Rune-Jakobsen Woodworks products are handmade to order; the current production time is shown on each product page.

VAT, duties and import charges

Orders within the EU are shipped without import duties. Orders to the USA are shipped DDP, so duties and tariffs are calculated and paid at checkout. For UK orders, UK VAT is added at checkout. For other non-EU destinations, local taxes or import fees may apply unless checkout specifies DDP delivery.

Tracking and delivery

You will receive tracking information when the order has been dispatched. Please contact us if tracking does not update, a parcel arrives damaged or the carrier requests charges that were already paid at checkout.

30-Day Right of Withdrawal

You may notify us that you wish to withdraw from your purchase within 30 days of receiving the order. The right of withdrawal applies to all products, including products made in custom dimensions.

Returning an item

Contact us before returning the order. Items must be unused, undamaged and packed securely for transport. You may choose the return carrier, and return shipping is paid by the customer unless the return concerns an accepted defect or incorrect delivery.

Refund

We refund the full purchase price after the returned item has been received and checked. The refund is made to the original payment method.

If a product is damaged, defective or incorrect, contact us as soon as possible and include your order number and photographs. We will assess the case and arrange the appropriate solution.

Customs, VAT and Duties

All orders are dispatched from Denmark. The way VAT, duties and import charges are handled depends on the delivery country.

European Union

Prices include the applicable VAT. There are no customs duties on deliveries within the EU.

United Kingdom

Prices are shown excluding UK VAT, which is added at checkout. Any duties handled through a DDP service are also shown and paid before dispatch.

United States

Orders are shipped DDP. Duties, tariffs and import charges are calculated and paid at checkout.

Other destinations

Checkout shows the tax and duty setup available for your destination. Where DDP is not offered, local taxes, duties or carrier fees may be charged on import.
