Genuine Japanese kitchen knives are made from various types of hard, high-quality steel and represent the finest in Japanese knife craftsmanship. 

To maintain the sharpness of the knife and ensure a long service life, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines:

• Never wash the knives in a dishwasher. Instead, clean the knife by hand with lukewarm water and dry it thoroughly immediately – never let it air dry.
• The knives must not be used for hard items such as frozen foods, bones, cartilage, cartilage or hard cheeses.
• Only use the knives on wooden or plastic cutting boards. Avoid cutting surfaces made of glass, stone or metal.
• Store the knife on a magnetic knife holder or in a knife sheath. Avoid loose drawers where the blade can be damaged.
• Sharpen the knife regularly with a wet whetstone or have it sharpened professionally.
• Avoid using knife sharpeners with steel or ceramic wheels as they can damage the hard steel.
• Keep the blade dry and clean – for longer storage, a thin layer of oil (e.g. camellia oil) can protect the steel from rust.

Japanese knives are made of thin, hard steel , which gives them extreme sharpness. However, this hardness makes them more vulnerable to chipping (small nicks in the edge) if used incorrectly. This is not a defect – but a characteristic of the fine material.

All prices in the webshop are displayed in your local currency. Prices for customers in the EU, UK, Switzerland and Norway always include the applicable VAT. Further information on customs duties and fees can be found in the section below.

Fixed, fair prices

We believe in the value of good craftsmanship – and this is reflected in our prices, which are the same for all customers all year round. We do not participate in discount campaigns such as Black Friday, and you will not find discount codes for our shop on external sites or offer services.

It's a conscious choice: We don't want to discriminate against our customers, so instead of short-term or individual discounts, we offer quality products at fair prices and these benefits that are always available to everyone:

When will the money be withdrawn?

• For items in stock: The amount is reserved on your account when you place your order and is only withdrawn when we ship your package.
• Woodworking (custom-made wooden products): These products are handmade to order, therefore the order is considered a binding pre-order.
• The purchase amount will be deducted as soon as your order is approved and production has started. Should you regret your purchase, we will of course refund you the full amount.

Returns and complaints

30-day cancellation policy

You have 30 days from the date of receipt of the goods to notify us that you wish to cancel your purchase. You then have a further 8 days to return the goods. The right of cancellation applies to all standard products.

Exception: For custom-made products, the right of withdrawal only applies if this has been agreed in writing in advance.

⏎ Right of withdrawal

You have 30 days after receipt to notify us that you regret the purchase, and then you have an additional 8 days to send it back.

The right of withdrawal applies to all standard products in the webshop.

The right of withdrawal and return for custom-made products in special sizes is only valid if a special (written) agreement has been made.

If you regret your purchase and return the item(s), we will refund the full purchase amount when the item(s) are delivered back to us in unused and undamaged condition.

According to the Danish Sales Act, Rune-Jakobsen Design grants a 2-year warranty from the invoice date for manufacturing and material defects (defects).

Real Products, Honest Images

For us, craftsmanship, materials and aesthetics take centre stage. Our product photos should give you an honest and inspiring impression of what you're getting – without unnecessary staging.

The vast majority of product photos in our webshop are therefore taken by us – whether it's a mill, a knife holder, a serving board or one of our textiles. The images of our wooden products always show real, handcrafted pieces, photographed before they are packed and shipped to their new owners.

To help you imagine how the products look in different homes and kitchens, we sometimes place these original photographs into AI-generated interiors or backgrounds. Only the background is artificial – the product itself is never altered or AI-generated. Every grain, edge, colour and detail you see belongs to the physical piece we made.

From time to time, we also receive photos from happy customers who kindly allow us to use them in the webshop. These images offer an honest and inspiring glimpse of how our products look in real homes and surroundings.

No artificial product renders. No misleading visual enhancements. Just real craftsmanship, photographed honestly.

Reference images when choosing a variant

We are constantly expanding our product gallery. As many of our products come in a wide range of sizes and variants, we don't yet have photos of them all. The image shown for your selection therefore primarily illustrates the chosen wood type – not necessarily the specific size or design variation.

Every piece of wood is unique

Wood is a living, natural material, and our passion is creating unique products with character. Grain patterns and colour tones will therefore naturally vary from piece to piece. Please consider our images as guiding inspiration and an indication of the quality we deliver.

We ship DAP (Delivered At Place) to Australia and GST is not charged at checkout. Whether your order will be subject to tax upon arrival depends on one simple threshold:

Orders under AUD 1,000: No duty, no GST, no fees. Your order is delivered directly to your door at no additional cost — the price at checkout plus shipping is all that matters.

Orders over AUD 1,000: Australian authorities charge import duties and GST, which the carrier will settle with you before delivery. Here's how it's calculated:

• Customs duty: approximately 5% of the price of the goods (the rate depends on the type of goods).
• GST: 10% of goods + freight + customs duty.
• Processing fee: a fixed fee for customs clearance from authorities and the shipping company, typically AUD 100–200 total.

Calculation example: You order goods for AUD 1,600 with AUD 150 in shipping.

• Duty: 5% of 1,600 = AUD 80
• GST: 10% of (1,600 + 150 + 80) = AUD 183
• Processing fee: approx. AUD 100–200
• Total import costs: approximately AUD 360–460 — on top of what you paid at checkout.

Good to know: The limit applies per shipment. So if your order is just over AUD 1,000, it may be best to either keep the order below the limit or add a little more to your cart so that the import costs are spread over a larger purchase — the processing fee is the same whether the order is AUD 1,100 or AUD 3,000.

All of our products — with the exception of the Japan collection — are of EU origin and can therefore be imported duty-free under the EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement (CETA). Products from our Japan collection may be subject to customs duties at the regular Canadian rates.
