Raku fired salt cellar – handmade unique item

A handmade salt cellar from Dorte Visby, 7–8 cm in diameter. Available in the glaze colors white, ochre and blue. Raku is an old firing technique with Korean roots. The items are fired at around 1130 °C and taken red-hot from the kiln and into a barrel of flammable material, where the oxygen is suffocated. This is the process that gives the characteristic cracks and color changes – and it is impossible to repeat exactly, so each piece is unique.

Therefore a salt shaker rather than a gay

Flaked salt and coarse salt should be picked up with your fingers, not shaken out – that's the only way to dose it accurately over a finished dish. An open salt shaker on the table makes that movement natural. Seven to eight centimeters is big enough to get three fingers in.
