Article: Which knife block is right for your kitchen?

Hvilken knivskinne passer til dit køkken? - Rune-Jakobsen Design

Which knife block is right for your kitchen?

What length should I choose?

A knife rack is one of those kitchen details that rarely gets much attention — until you have the right one. Then it suddenly becomes indispensable. At Rune-Jakobsen Design, we have developed our solid wood knife rack series based on exactly that: that knives should hang close to hand, safely and beautifully, without taking up space on the countertop.

But which model is right for you? It depends on your kitchen, your knife collection — and most importantly, how you use them. Here's what you need to know.

The length determines how many knives your knife block or knife holder can hold. A simple method is to line up your knives with the spacing you want. Then measure the total width – this will give you the minimum length your new knife holder should be.

Remember that our knife blocks are magnetic on both sides, so you need to divide the result by 2 if you want your knives stored on a knife block.

Which knife rails are the strongest?

We design our knife rails so that a standard rail of 4.5 cm in width has more than enough power for the vast majority of kitchen knives. The width is therefore primarily about design, as the magnetic strength is the same across widths within the same series.

  • Rails of 4.5–8.5 cm have the same magnetic force.
  • Rails of 10–28 cm have approximately 50% stronger magnetic force .
  • Our X-tra Strong models have 100% stronger magnetic force than the standard models.

If you have very large or heavy knives, we recommend a wide or X-tra Strong model. This provides a larger magnetic contact surface and ensures that the knives sit extra stably.

Which knife blocks are the strongest?

We design our knife blocks so that one block always has more than enough power for the vast majority of kitchen knives. The width is therefore primarily a matter of design, as the magnetic strength is the same across widths within the same series.
